The Future of Building Inspection: What Aerial Drones Can (and Can't) Do Yet
Aerial inspection for commercial and residential buildings is one of the most promising extensions of RPAS work - and one we're actively developing. Here's where things stand today.
Overview
Aerial inspection for buildings is an obvious extension of RPAS work - roofs, guttering, and high or hard-to-reach areas are exactly the kind of thing a drone can look at without scaffolding, ladders, or the safety risk that comes with them. It's also a service we're actively developing rather than one we've fully launched.
What's Genuinely Useful Today
- General roof surface condition and visible damage.
- Guttering condition and blockages.
- Visible external damage after storms or severe weather.
- General exterior condition checks on hard-to-reach elevations.
What's Still In Development at Earth2 Recon
Building inspection is explicitly a work-in-progress for us, subject to the applicable CASA approvals, procedures, and operational risk assessments that come with flying closer to structures and, often, more populated areas than a rural land job. We'd rather be upfront about that than overstate the service before it's ready.
Conclusion & Takeaways
- Aerial building inspection already handles roof and guttering checks well.
- It's an area we're deliberately expanding into, not one we've fully rolled out yet.
- Get in touch if you'd like to discuss what's possible for your building today.
